About

Northeast Iowa RC&D is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides assistance to individuals, organizations, and businesses through planning, grant-writing, organizational assistance, and many other services. The organization primarily serves a six county area of Northeast Iowa but they also provide leadership on state-wide and regional, multi-state initiatives.

The RC&D office is centrally located in Postville and we’ve been serving citizens in Allamakee, Winneshiek, Howard, Clayton, Fayette, and Buchanan Counties since 1987.

Northeast Iowa is a diverse, rural area where people choose to engage in their communities and spend time outside on their farms, in the hardwood forests, on trails or in rivers and cold water trout streams. Bordered to the north by Minnesota and to the east by the Mississippi River, the majority of the area is in the Paleozoic Plateau or Driftless Area. The glaciers bypassed this unique region, giving the rivers time to cut into ancient bedrock and create distinctive land forms. The soils that cover the steep slopes are fragile, ecosystems are diverse, and most of the cold water streams and rivers are recognized on a state or national basis for their economic and environmental importance. Because of its hilly terrain, the area is one of the few remaining strongholds for Iowa’s small to medium livestock, dairy and local food producers.
